MYNT is a Bluetooth tracking tag that also functions as a remote control

Bluetooth trackers are pretty common these days, with various devices cropping up to help you locate phones, keys, bags and even umbrellas . These tags tend to be pretty simple: just stick them on your device and then use a phone app to work out where you lastmyn left the blasted thing.

MYNT

But Mynt, which is currently at the IndieGoGo stage of existence, wants to push the limits a little, creating a product that's not only super-thin, but also has a button that lets it act like a remote control for certain functions. The product, which is being developed by Slightech out of San Jose, measures 1 by 2.2 by 0.14 inches (25 by 55 by 3.5mm). The crowd-funding campaign page says that's about the same thickness as two quarters -- a very helpful metric if you're American. Everyone else can just picture what 3.5mm looks like.

It has a sturdy stainless steel case and is IP43 rated, which means you can splash it without it going kaput. It'll be offered in silver, black, gold and yellow. It runs on Bluetooth 4.0 LE, which gives it an effective range of around 50 metres (150 feet).

MYNY And Tile

In addition to standard Bluetooth tracking tag functions, Mynt also features a replaceable battery unlike its rival tag Tile. The other key differentiator is the button, which lets Mynt use the Bluetooth connection to act as a remote control. Some of the suggested functions are for changing PowerPoint slides, music controls or even as a remote control for your phone camera, hopefully eliminating the need for a selfie stick.

Much like Tile, Mynt will let you locate misplaced or stolen items by marking them as lost. If the signal gets picked up by any Mynt users, you'll get a notification of that location.
